ALBEROBELLO AND THE TRULLI!

 John and I boarded a bus this morning with the destination of Alberobello, home of the Trulli!  If only it was that easy!  We walked here, we walked there, we asked this person, we asked that person—where in the world was the darn bus stop????  We FINALLY found it, (thank you, lady in the black jacket), and waited patiently in line!

The hour bus ride was easy peasy and we got to see many vineyards along the way.  Note the beautiful blue skies, cloudy but BLUE!

We got excited when we spotted our first trullo!  To be honest, I didn’t even know what that word meant before this trip!

Finally clusters of trulli came into sight!  We were getting close to Alberobello!

It started sprinkling when we arrived, so we ducked into this adorable cafe that boasted a trullo interior!

We thought the rain was over, so we proceeded to walk downtown, where we saw a cool block of trees literally cut into a square on the city center square!

And then it began to pour buckets!  But, umbrellas in hand, we persevered!  

The town of trulli was delightful!  The shops were delightful!  The weather was dreadful!  But we found rain gear and made it work!

I only wished there were brilliant blue skies behind those trulli!!!  But it was an amazing day, sloshing wet shoes and all!

After several hours of going in and out of the shops, it was time to head back to the train station to catch our bus back to Bari.  But first, a stop at the Basilica Dei Santi Medici, a beautiful church in downtown Alberobella!

While we were at dinner we got a text from Matt and Val, saying they were “on their way!”  The next couple of weeks are going to be a whirlwind of destinations with these two!  Stay tuned!
